Preparation
Methodologies: Successive Approximation Model (SAM) and Backwards Design (BD)
- Integrate Backward Design principles by starting with clearly defined learning outcomes and goals, while utilizing SAM’s preparation phase to conduct thorough background research, gather initial requirements, and establish a collaborative environment.
Adult Learning Principle
- Goal-Oriented Learning: Ensure the learning objectives are clear and relevant to the learners’ needs.
In the preparation phase, I employed Backward Design to define clear learning outcomes and goals for the Intern Thrival Experience.
This involved establishing what learners should be able to do after completing the course. I used the Padlet to collaboratively map out these objectives, sections, prompts, and activities, integrating feedback from subject matter experts and potential learners.
This initial phase ensured that the course content would be focused on achieving specific, measurable learning outcomes.
Design & Prototyping
Methodologies: Successive Approximation Model (SAM) and Backwards Design (BD)
- Utilize SAM’s iterative design phase to develop initial prototypes and gather feedback in iterative cycles, ensuring assessments and activities are designed to align closely with defined learning outcomes according to Backward Design principles.
Adult Learning Principle
- Learner-Centered and Active Participation: Involve learners in the design process to ensure the content is engaging and meets their needs.
During the design and prototyping phase, I used the Padlet to outline the course structure and create initial prototypes of the content. This included developing videos, quizzes, and interactive simulations that aligned with the defined learning outcomes. I implemented these prototypes quickly to gather feedback from a focus group current students and interns, ensuring the content was engaging and relevant. This iterative process allowed for adjustments based on learner input, fostering active participation and alignment with adult learning principles.
Development and Implementation Phase
Methodologies: Successive Approximation Model (SAM) and Backwards Design (BD)
- Finalize course materials and make adjustments based on evaluations after implementation during the SAM development phase, ensuring instructional strategies are developed to effectively support the achievement of learning outcomes according to Backward Design principles.
Adult Learning Principle
- Relevance and Practicality: Ensure the course materials are practical and immediately applicable to the learners’ real-life situations.
In the development and implementation phase, I finalized the course materials based on iterative feedback and evaluations. The Padlet continued to serve as a reference for maintaining the course structure and making necessary adjustments.
I ensured that instructional strategies, such as interactive elements and real-life scenarios, supported the achievement of learning outcomes. After initial implementation, I collected feedback from learners through a short survey and assessments, applying the SAM model to make continuous improvements.
This approach ensured that the course remained relevant and practical, promoting learner engagement and application of newly acquired interning skills and knowledge.
